Raffie Cruz
Rafael Héctor Cruz-Navarro, known as Raffie Cruz, was a Puerto Rican and Jamaican-Dominican vocalist and composer. The son of Ezra Cruz and Nadia Beckford, he began releasing music as a child, studied at Berklee College of Music, and later married guitarist and composer Elías Navarro.
Early Life and Family
Raffie was born Rafael Héctor Cruz on June 9, 2035. His name honored his paternal grandfather, Rafael Cruz, and Hector Burgos, Ezra’s closest friend.
He grew up in a musical family and was the first child of his generation with whom Charlie Rivera formed a close bond. Charlie taught him to play drums. Raffie also learned ASL as part of the family’s communication with Charlie.
Raffie closely resembled Ezra, with his father’s facial structure and his mother’s darker complexion. As a young adult, he stood approximately five feet eleven inches tall with a lean, strong build. He had warm brown skin with golden undertones, soft hazel eyes, and thick curls worn longer and sometimes tied into a loose puff.
Personality and Presentation
Raffie was quiet, emotionally magnetic, and deliberate in conversation. He listened more than he spoke, used a soft voice, and chose his words carefully. He often carried a notebook or staff paper and dressed in loose button-down shirts, soft trousers, and rings on at least three fingers.
Within his family, Raffie called Ezra ‘’Dad’’ or ‘’Pop’’ and Charlie ‘’Tío’‘. Charlie’s place in his life carried the weight of a second father: Ezra taught Raffie how to perform, while Charlie taught him how to feel through music. Raffie was affectionate with both men, sometimes falling asleep against Charlie’s shoulder or kissing either of them on the cheek when he was proud of them.
Music Career and Education
At eleven, Raffie launched the YouTube music channel R.C. Sessions with Ezra, Freddie, and Riley managing the account. He released the self-produced, self-released six-track homemade LP ‘’Early Hours’‘ in 2051, when he was sixteen.
Raffie attended Berklee College of Music, studied vocal performance and composition, and graduated at twenty-one. He met Elías there during a late-night jam session when both were approximately nineteen.
As a vocalist, Raffie paired a haunting, smoky alto with restrained delivery and long, still sustained notes. His compositions used layered harmony and often moved from melancholy toward hopeful resolution. He frequently wrote in honor of his elders, including For the Man Who Stayed, a Berklee composition for Ezra. Within the music scene, he became known as “the Whispered Flame.” His senior recital moved multiple faculty members to tears.
In early 2057, when Raffie was twenty-one, he released ‘’Inheritance’‘, his first formal post-Berklee studio album. The album blended jazz, R&B, bachata, and neo-soul and included the father-son collaboration “Made of Ashes”.
